Susan Heavey is AHCJ’s topic leader covering the social determinants and disparities that impact health. As a reporter for Reuters, she focuses on health, education and income & inequality issues. Based in Washington, D.C., Heavey covered health care for more than a decade, reporting on health care regulation and policy, including Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Her work has appeared on reuters.com, been picked up by The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNBC and other outlets, and led news websites for Yahoo! and Google. She previously wrote about health for washingtonpost.com and KidsHealth. Heavey was a 2013 fellow at the Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT.
